About 200 Senior monks in Myanmar today called on for peace following an increase in religious conflicts in the former military ruling junta in a joint statement that stopped short of condemning a wave of anti-Muslim attacks, AFP news reported.
Medias are being blamed by Buddhist clerics who claimed they are responsible for ruining their image because of accusations that they start violence.
Senior monk Dhammapiya disclosed that all Buddhist leaders and Buddhist want to have a peaceful life setting aside any forms of conflict.
He further said that among the religions in the world, Buddhism is one of the best. The whole populace of Myanmar support and abide by the rules and regulations on how to live peacefully.
Though several monks have participated in anti-Muslim attacks, others who tried to intervene just so the violence would stop were accused as perpetrators.
They condemn particularly the reports supplied by the media that accuses them of wrongly acts and cause harm to the dignity of Buddhists and Buddhist monks.
On the other hand, senior clerics distanced themselves from a call from controversial Mandalay monk Wirathu for restrictions on inter-faith marriage, the report said.
