RCSS/SSA leader meets Hkun Htun Oo at his residence in Yangon

The delegates of the Restoration Council of Shan State/Shan State Army’s (RCSS/SSA) met with the chairman of the Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD) HkunHtunOo at his house on Pyay Road in Rangoon last Wednesday, according to news reported from SHAN.

A spokesperson for the RCSS/SSA Maj. Lao Hseng disclosed that during the meeting of these two great leaders, they discussed three main points.

First is the framework for political dialogues. This would not only apply to politicians but would also include dialogue among ethnic armed groups and all the people concerned and it would take place in Shan State in year 2014.

Secondly, providing alternative solutions for Shan migrants in Thailand. During the previous military ruling junta, the 4-cut Policy was used to compel the relocation of the Shan people. Because of this policy 800,000 people migrated to Thailand. Majority of these migrants have illegal status.

For these people, before the National census can be conducted countrywide in 2014, they should consider how the national identification card and household registration could be applied; and also how to resettle them in their home states prior to their leaving.

And lastly is the release of all political prisoners who are still languishing in jail. Also he asked for the elimination of the illegal status of ethnic armed group organizations, Section 17/1 of the penal code, the report said.
