Myanmar condemns the Time Magazine

A Buddhist monk was featured as the cover of Time Magazine's July issue as a "Buddhist Terror" to which the office of Myanmar President reacted negatively on Sunday night upon its release, said news report from Eleven Media.

Myanmar's government is against the TIME magazine's cover story entitled "The Face Of Buddhist Terror" since this is damaging and unfavorable to the people whose main religion is Buddhism, the main religion of Myanmar for many years. This can also imply negativity between religions in the country instead of strengthening trust among other religions.

According to the government press release, Buddhist monk U Wirathu is a Sangha or a Buddha's son". Buddhist monks are known to be noble persons who keep 277 precepts or moral rules and strive peacefully for the prosperity of Buddhism.

Moreover, the government of Myanmar disclosed that they do not single out the religions and there is freedom of religions in the country.

They emphasized that while the majority of its populace practice Buddhism, Constitutional Section 362 was acknowledged and recognized by the government stating that Islam, Animism, Hinduism and Christianity are the existing religions in the country, the report said.
