Drug users and traders increase along Shan-Kachin states border

The increase of business on illegal drugs has been reported and this occurs in a transborder between Kachin and Shan States at Manweng village. These unlawful drugs are distributed freely and traded with consent, said news report from SHAN.

It's been a fact that Manweng Long was a center for drug trading for sometimes. Since the Burmese police force and Kachin army officials ignored the passing of illicit drug trades, the effect is drug addicts and abusers have been increasing day by day.

According to Sai Ai, a native of Mangweng, a drug known as yaba or methamphetamine tablets are the most in demand in the market sector today.

Shan and Kachin youths whose ages range between 13 and 35 are the most involved in the illegal use of drugs. Theft and robberies are widespread in these areas. People who sell drugs are also drug addicts and users vice versa, said Sai Ai.

The drug selling point of Manweng Long is located in King Swe Kham's garden at the back of Myanmar Police station. The drug traders and users ignore the owner of the garden even if they were asked to get out of his premises.

Authorities in the region would come to stop the drug users and traders for awhile. Things such as motorcycles or money and some other materials which are of value are taken from these addicts and later on they are freed again, the report said.

Since a year ago, drug traders and users have been increased in many folds while the KIA (Kachin Independent Army) and Burmese army were at wars.

Local sources said that Shan State bordering with Manweng Long in Kachin State and Wan Kawngsa village in Namkham Township has been a venue for selling drugs. Original source: http://www.betweenonline.com/2013/06/21/drug-users-and-traders-increase-along-shan-kachin-states-border/
