Aung Min: Naypyitaw will host peace talks based on Panglong spirit

Aung Min
Vice-chairman Aung Min of Union Peacemaking Committee disclosed during a peace talk held in Myitkyina last May 28 that President Thein Sein is determined and eager to have a widespread discussion with regards the ceasefire with the involvement of all armed ethnic groups this coming June-July to be in capital Nay Pyi Taw, said news report from Eleven Media.

However the signing of the ceasefire would simply be dependent on the government’s move if the ceasefire negotiation with the Kachin Independent Army (KIA) will work out.

In preparation for the political conversation, the government is in the process of preparing the important principles and standards and it has been discussed with the United Nationalities Federation Council (UNFC).

Furthermore, Aung Min added that the UNFC as well as the government is now writing the principles required for the political dialogue.

The principles of the Panglong Agreement will be the basis for the political discussion, the report said.
Queries were thrown to KIA Deputy Chief Staff Maj-Gen Gwan Maw about how the President is determined to attain the ceasefire negotiation in Nay Pyi Taw and Aung Min answered earnestly that he has no knowledge of President Thein’s plan of action and proposed to the media to ask the matter with the government.
