25 suspects arrested after 1 killed and 5 injured in Lashio’s sectarian riot

Twenty five suspects were arrested and questioned thoroughly by authorities in a communal unrest that occurred in Lashio, Myanmar's northern Shan state for the last two days that led to the death of one person and injuring five people, said news report from Xinhua.

All the detainees came from Lashio Township. The authorities are conducting investigations whether there are people who were involved in this riots that are not from that place.

Another communal group involved in arson and damaging properties were stopped by security forces on Wednesday afternoon.

The township was peaceful that Thursday morning until a group of angry people tried to destroy a house owned by a Muslim. About 15 people were arrested because of this incident.

Burnt properties and buildings include two vehicles, 11 motor cycles, four warehouses, 32 shops, three religious buildings (mosques), one cinema and five residential houses, the report said.
