An Exciting Presidential Polls of Myanmar's 2015 Election

By: Public View Truthfully, I am feeling very excited to find out our future President as we have now two candidates according the news published on www.straistimes.com, South China Morning Post, and BBC Asia news. One of the candidates wishes to run for President in 2015 polls. Thura Shwe Mann, Myanmar politician who has been Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw, the lower house of Myanmar Parliament since 2011 announced during a visit to Washington that “ I will run for president it is the key to work for the betterment of the country and the people’s interest”, he told Radio Free Asia’s ( RFA). “ If there were a position higher than or more important than the president, I would want that post”. To me, it is a crystal clear that Thura Shwe Mann is definitely going to stand in 2015 polls for President Office. It is no doubt about that. A brief background history of this candidate is that he was born on 11 July 1947 and graduated in 1969 from the DSA ( Defence Services Academy ). He was promoted to major in 1988. He earned “Thura” ( honorific title ) for his bravery in fighting the Karen National Liberation Army ( KNLA ) in 1989. Thura Shwe Mann joined the Ministry of Defence in 2001, becoming joint chief-of-staff in 2003. He was promoted to General. He is married to Khin Lay Thet and has two sons ( Toe Naing Mann and Aung Thet Mann). On 31st of January 2011 he was elected Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw, the lower house of the Myanmar Parliament and on 7 February 2012 he addressed the Pyithu Hluttaw. Now he declares that he will be one of the contestants in 2015 Presidency polls. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Nobel Peace Laureate, the leader of NLD ( National League for Democracy ) was born on the 19th of June 1945. She was educated in Rangoon until 15 years old. Her foreign knowledge and experience, were started since 1960 as she accompanied to mother who was Myanmar Ambassador to India and Nepal. She studied politics at Delhi University. She had BA in Philosophy, politics and economics from St. Hugh’s College, Oxford University during 1964-1967. She was elected Honorary Fellow in 1990. From 1969 to 1971 she worked as assistant secretary, Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions, United Nations Secretariat, New York. 1972 she was research officer of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bhutan and got married to Dr Michael Aris. She has two sons ( Alexander and Kim ). 1985 to 1986, Visiting Scholar, Centre for Southeast Asian Studies, Kyoto University. 1987 Fellow, Indian Institute of Advanced Studies , Simla. In 1988 September The National League for Democracy was formed with Aung San Suu Kyi. In 1990 she was awarded with Rafto Human Rights Prize. In 1991 Human Rights Prize of the European Parliament was awarded. Again 1991, Nobel Peace Prize was awarded. In 2012 NLD won 43 of 45 seats contested in the by-election. On the 25th of July 2012 her first speech was heard in the Parliament. Above candidates are the contestants of Myanmar future Presidency election. However the constitution of 2008 has to be amended seriously so that it is fair election without breaching of UN Convention. Thura Shwe Mann, the potential contestant of Presidency informed RFA that Myanmar’s parliament would soon establish a commission to review the constitution and would abide by its recommendations, including Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi should be allowed to run for President. I have highlighted the background history of these two candidates’ biographies including their education, experience, capacity, ability, and their talents so that our citizens of Myanmar could make a fair decision to vote the right candidate for your future, your family’s future and the cornerstone of stability and peacefulness for the citizens of Myanmar. Both candidates are trustworthy and they have different level of talents and experiences. However as part of politics education qualification and foreign communication, International community and their relationship activities NLD leader Nobel Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi would be able to demonstrate better as she is a leader from the citizens of Myanmar, not directly appointed by the Military background. In my opinion, the public leader should have the Presidency position this time of Presidency polls because President Thein Sain was appointed by USDP, he hasd military background. We must have different opinion and different ways of ideas for betterment of the citizens, if you agree my suggestion. I am excited that Myanmar will get better and better if the public leader has been appointed as the lady President of Myanmar. We must create our country as a spotless Myanmar in the World. I believe, this article reader is also thinking the same as me.
