The sending of migrant workers to Malaysia has been stopped by the government after hearing reports of recent attack and killing of Myanmar workers in Malaysia, said news report from Xinhua.
According to the Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Security Maung Myint, the authorities of Myanmar are concerned about the safety and welfare of migrant workers in Saudi Arabia and Jordan thus they are working on important actions to make certain that they are protected.
He stressed that the ongoing conflict in Malaysia is not at all a religious violence but more on social conflict.
Moreover, the government acted by sending special delegation to Kuala Lumpur and to hold discussions with three Malaysian ministries addressing its government to implement safety measures for Myanmar migrant workers and to punish those who are involved in the commission of crimes.
Because of the incident, Myanmar migrant workers who are determined not to stay longer in Malaysia have wanted to go back to Myanmar.
For those Myanmar migrants who prefer to stay in Malaysia, the authorities are dealing with their counterparts regarding their legal status, the report said.
Statistics showed that from May 30 to June 8, a total of five Myanmar workers were attacked and killed while six suffered from injuries. Malaysian youths in the northern suburbs of the capital of Kuala Lumpur and who were gang members were responsible for the attacks.
