After 47 years, Thein Sein who was a former general was the first president of Myanmar to make an official visit to White House. Meanwhile some activists did not like the invitation because there are problems and issues about human rights.
President Thein Sein was given due credit by President Obama because of undertaking significant economic and political reforms for Myanmar. This paved a way for ending tensions between the two countries.
During his speech in one of the universities in Washington President Thein Sein emphasized the new era in the relationship between US and Myanmar. He also stressed that he will end the communal violence between the Muslims and Buddhists that left many innocent people dead. Any person found responsible for any wrong doings will be punished and face the rule of law.
President Obama stressed that the violence against the Muslims in Myanmar worries him a lot. The violence, abuses and the forced displacement of these people must be put to a stop.
Moreover, both President Thein Sein and President Obama talked about the possibility of releasing more political prisoners, establish political reform and ascertain rule of law and to end the conflict among ethnic groups, the report said.
