Democratic leader Aung San SuuKyi said during a public meeting held
in Bago last March 23 said that 99% of the people of Myanmar have lost
their trust and belief in the justice system same as with the court of
law. The only way to bring back the confidence is to rebuild the rule of
law, according to news reported from Myanmar Times.
Being the chairman of the Rule of Law, Stability and Peace Committee SuuKyi disclosed that of the four pillars of the community, Judiciary is the most vital pillar that needs immediate repair.
She further stressed that she will restore back the confidence in the judicial system but it is also highly important for the three remaining pillars which are media, executive and judiciary to do the same thing.
She stressed that when they say the “Rule of Law is weak” it does not mean that there is no justice in the courts.
People have accused the judiciary of taking money. However, SuuKyi said it’s not sufficient enough to point fingers or make accusations. The major factors of illegality and corruption within the judiciary need special attention.
It is ideal if we help one another and avoid blaming each other. She further stressed that the government and legislative pillars plays a very important role in helping correct the judiciary, the report said.
Bribery, both to the police and the court officials, impartial judgement and deliberate and unnecessary delays are the most frequent complaints cast against the judicial system.
