Myanmar to stop exporting Teak and Hardwood next year

According to the Ministry of Environmental Conservation and Forestry in Myanmar, they will stop exporting logs such as hardwood and Teak starting April 1st next year in order to sustain forest reservation which is the top most resource of the country and to help the populace create job opportunities at home, said news report from New Light of Myanmar.

As part of the reforms undertaken by the government, this important step will further develop the socio-economic life of the people in general bringing about their welfare and for their benefit.

The only allowed goods to be exported are finished or semi-finished wooden products. This will enable the flow of foreign investment in the manufacturing industry and also the production technology. This will also provide employment to the people so as to uplift their standard of living, the report said.
