Myanmar’s President Thein Sein said in a radio program that Sim cards
will be made available in the country soon for a very reasonable price.
This is in line with the making of the new budget for the country on
March 31, said news report from Mizzima.
In his speech he reminded the people of his promise to provide a low-cost sim card under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology responsible for the sale of SIM cards. This will benefit a lot of mobile users but will be subject in accordance with the rules and regulations.
No specific amount was disclosed on how much the retail price of the SIM Cards is. In the past a SIM card is charged at 200,000 to 250,000 kyat or equivalent to US$235 to US$290.
As part of the transformation, the government is coming up with an arrangement to expand telephone infrastructures that are undeveloped in the coming years. They also intend to increase the number of mobile phones in the country to eight million during the 2013-14 fiscal year; to 18 million by year 2014- 2015 and eventually to have 26 million phones throughout Myanmar, the report said.
