Four women killed by a turned over express bus

Earlier today a speeding bus skidded and turned turtle at Pathein-Chaungtha Road in Myanmar's Ayeyawady region where four women were reportedly killed in the incident, Eleven Media report said.

The bus with sixty three passengers were going to Chaungtha beach after returning from the Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda in Mon State on a pilgrimage when it went into a skid and overturned at Mile Post No.9 near Kyaukchaunggyi village on Pathein-Chaungtha Road at about 1:00 am today.

According to some witnesses who were at the sight of the incident and helped in rescuing the passengers disclosed that many of them bore serious wounds.

The incident occurred during the wee hours of the morning. The air was filled with screams and shout asking for help. When they finally get there they saw the bus turned upside down with passengers trapped inside.

People living in nearby areas and various organizations came to the rescue. Three passengers died on the spot while the other one died during treatment in the hospital.

All 25 passengers who were injured were taken at Pathein Hospital for medical treatment. Legal actions are being readied by the authorities against the bus driver for reckless driving and over speeding, the report said.
