US donates $100,000 to riot hit families in central Myanmar

The government of United States disclosed that they will be giving an aid package for the people living in the central Myanmar affected by the unrest that occurred last week, Myanmar Times news reported.

The amount of US$100,000 will be distributed to families who were forced to leave their homes since the Buddhist and Muslims in the city of Meikhtila clashed for three days and 40 people were reported to have died in the incident.

In a press briefing held in Washington, DC. last March 26, US Department of State spokesperson Victoria Nuland said that the package assistance includes blankets, plastic sheeting, hygiene kits, emergency water, utensils and sanitation assistance to the evacuees.

President Thein Sein ordered the military forces to take control of the area and safety measures were organized in Meikhtila on March 23. However, violence occurred in Minhla, Gyobingauk and Okpa in Bago where a curfew was set from dusk till dawn, the report said.
