Shops and bars in Yangan ordered to shut by 9pm

All owners of bars and karaoke lounges were issued a directive by the Yangon Region government in all townships to close shop by 9 o’clock in the evening, said news report from Eleven Media.

According to a government official they have undertaken this step to avoid drunken fights and clashes since there are hostilities happening in other areas of the region. In case any untoward incident occurs, the rule of law under Section 188 of Penal Code of Myanmar will take effect. He further added that the government order is not in any way related with religious conflicts.

After a number of people gathered in front of Yuzana Plaza and some other areas in Tamway Township on the eve of Monday, authorized officials in the township issued the administrative order informing Tamway and Pazudaung Townships to follow the order.

The Yangon Region government on Monday also issued a word of warning that whoever is caught scattering gossips about hostilities will be reprimanded. This is in the wake of communal violence in Meikhtila, Mandalay Region, the report said.
