Top government officials of Myanmar held a surprise meeting in Sydney with Myanmar’s ethnic minority representatives such as Karen, Kachin and Mon ethnic groups. They have addressed their concern over the human rights abuses and violations carried out by military forces even if there are existing ceasefire agreements, Radio Australia news reported.

During the meeting, the ethnic groups asked the withdrawal of military troops in minority regions completely. President Thein Sein ordered the meeting because of the occurrence of protests during his state visit to Australia, the very first by a Myanmar head of state since 1974.

Meanwhile the President’s visit to Australia has been a diplomatic success. However, the conflict between the government and the ethnic diasporas were noted in Sydney, the report said.
