Mobs attack spread to Yamethin township in Mandalay

An angry mob consisting of 200 persons set on fire 50 houses, a mosque in Zay Kwat Thit village and another 50 furious mobs burnt down a house, apartment buildings and a meat-processing factory in Shwe Dar Village near Yamethin Township in Mandalay region last Saturday night, said news report from Eleven Media.

No casualties were reported in the incident. The houses that were burnt belong to 48 Muslim families while 5 Buddhist homes were razed in Zay Kwat Thit village.

A resident of Zay Kwat Thit village recalled that he was in his home and his shop is located in another place. When the fire broke out in Muslim areas, his shop was included since it lies in Muslim vicinity.

Meanwhile last Sunday, security forces were sent out to the villages for rigid monitoring and officials advised bar and restaurant owners to close their shops.
