Yawdserk raises peace, federal and drug issues during meeting with Suu Kyi

Aung San Suu Kyi, chairperson of the National League for Democracy met with Lieutenant General YawdSerk, chairman of the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS)/Shan State Army (SSA) last Saturday and discussed various issues on drugs, federal system and peace, said news report from Eleven Media.

Spokesperson for the RCSS/SSA Colonel SaiHla disclosed that the meeting lasted for about thirty minutes. Suu Kyi informed the leaders of the Shan armed group to communicate with the NLD party on whatever the condition of the RCSS/SSA area. She further added that issues and requirements of this area will be submitted to the Parliament.

Moreover, the presentation made by both parties concerning drugs were the same and all that she asked is full cooperation. Suu Kyi added that genuine peace could be achieved thru the creation of a federal system in the country. Cooperating with all the ethnic races is also one of her priorities.

On June 11, Lieutenant General YawdSerk visited Nay Pyi Taw upon the invitation of Myanmar President Thein Sein. He and the president talked about matters on holding political discussions, cease-fire plan, cooperation on anti-narcotic tasks and the determination of areas for regional development, the report said.

On June 12, YawdSerk arrived in Yangon and met with Khun Htun Oo, chairman of Shan National League for Democracy. Leaders of Shan armed group and leaders of Shan parties had also shared dinner with YawdSerk.
