Following Monk’s Convention in Burma for restriction of Buddhist-Muslim marriage I thought it would be helpful suggestion and to draw our public’s attention on consultation of this and to give feedback so that the confusion could be crystal clear rather than making things more complicated. To make a law may be easy but the law would have been justified and balanced up without bias. A religious law is good to have one but it has to be supported by UN Human Rights and its convention. Universal Declaration of Human Rights has to be taken into account if we are intending to set up to safeguard our society. However it would be discriminated to human rights and breach of UN Convention if we were making the law of restriction as above. Myanmar is now to become a Democratic country that opens all doors to build a firm concrete towards less poverty and to enhance the aspirations. We must stick with UN Convention and Universal Declaration of Human Rights to demonstrate the world that we are actually walking across path of Democracy and establishing the purity of the reforms. In this case we should drop this idea of restrictions on marriages Buddhist women and Muslim men which is not appropriate and not logically materialising subject. In Myanmar, traditionally, parents, family and community have been restrictions by default and this is already existed. 99% of Buddhist males and female are getting married in the same religion by parents. Likewise, majority of Muslim males and females are also getting married to Muslim religion in the community. In every society it is good practice that we plan our sons and daughters to be married by the same religion which is still our customs in practice. There may well be 1% of Buddhist women got married to Muslim men under the circumstances of their compassions, passion and love. It is hard to believe that how the law could force to stop people from getting married to each other if they are different in the religion belief. This is personal matter of course. People have their right of privacy, haven’t they? I sincerely, believe there is no the responsibility lying on the country or the parliament to make a decision to stop different religions to be married each other. An extreme care must be taken by lawmakers too. It is solely responsibility on parents, families and the relatives who should be training their children to safeguard from wrongdoing. And also partly responsibility relies on the religious leaders to educate parents and the children affirmative of their religion belief to demonstrate that they are doing their duty of protecting from wrongdoing according to their religious guidance (if any). On the other hand, I must also refer to the following UN Convention so that our citizens of Myanmar could take this into account of consideration before making any law on this particular issue. Human rights are rights inherent to all human beings, whatever our nationality, place of residence, sex, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, language, or any other status. We are all equally entitled to our human rights without discrimination. These rights are all interrelated, interdependent and indivisible. Universal human rights are often expressed and guaranteed by law, in the forms of treaties, customary international law, general principles and other sources of international law. International human rights law lays down obligations of Governments to act in certain ways or to refrain from certain acts, in order to promote and protect human rights and fundamental freedoms of individuals or groups. Human rights article 16 clearly said “Men and Women of full age, without any limitations due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family. They are entitled to equal rights as to marriage, during marriage and its dissolution. Marriage shall be entered into only with the free and full consent of the intending spouses. The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State.” My suggestion would be whatever we do we must do it logically. We are not isolated country like before. The world is seeing us and our course of actions should be on the right track. We all must be flexible. We must have a positive thinking power. Taking as a negative thoughts and conception could lead us to the dark. Not only that but also to become an isolated country again. We cannot compare Malaysia, Singapore, Western countries and what they do or don’t. Remember these countries are already on the top of the Globe. We had left with nothing due to lack of our administration system errors. Therefore, please never ever compare our country and neither Asian countries nor the Western countries. We should also remember that our people are working outside the countries because our country cannot accommodate sufficient jobs and the survivals have to be done to live. I note from the Irrawaddy news regarding discussion during monk’s convention that mentioned about Singapore and Malaysia. These countries are better than our country and their government system is entirely different from what we are here. I think we should only copy good things from them but not bad things, of course. The rule of law governed Singapore. People follow laws and orders in Singapore. Do we follow the rule of law in our country? The answer is up to you. At the end of the day, our country only relies on Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand because these are nearest country and easy to make businesses and our children works there so that they can support their family whilst own country does not encourage them and give support for the survivals. We must fight to protect from poverty. Forming family in different religion is a small thing and private matter. I must say first thing first. If we are really love the nation, we should save our girls who are being forced to be entertained as sex workers in neighbourhood countries like Thailand, China borders. They have to do this because of family survivals. If we really love the nation, we should save people from HIV and Aids or from any communicable diseases. If we really love the nation, we should be saving our girls from being connected with prostitute businesses in our community and society. We must have a clean society if you agree.
