Ethnic political parties to establish Federal Union Party

The Nationalities Brotherhood Federation (NBF) with fifteen ethnic political parties under it held their meeting last Tuesday and agreed to form a Federal Union Party. Their main goal is to create a big party composed of different ethnic groups to compete in the coming election of 2015, Eleven Media news reported.

According to Saw Thein Aung, the Phalon-Sawaw Democratic Party Chairman, principles will be formulated after forming the Federal Union Party. Any interested person who wants to join the party is required to resign from their own parties.

People who are not a member of any party are qualified to apply for membership.

Moreover, Chin National Party Chairman Zo Zan disclosed that the major concern of the federal system is the peace process between the government and armed-groups. That’s the reason why all ethnic leaders are needed to be involved in the negotiation of peace, the report said.
