Various reforms were implemented after being elected as the President of the country in year 2011.
In was in 1966 that a leader of Myanmar visited the White House as the country was under military ruling junta. China was the closest partner of Burma that time while the United States set its distance to the country.
Only last November when President Barack Obama of the United States visited Myanmar and various sanctions were lifted by the government of US in support for the reforms implemented by President Thein Sein.
On Monday, US companies will be meeting with President Thein Sein to discuss important investment projects for Myanmar.
The government of Myanmar has released 20 political prisoners before the scheduled visit of the President to the United States.
Under the reforms he has implemented, board of censorship has been eased, democratic icon and Nobel Prize winner Aung San Suukyi was permitted to enter politics and the latest of which is the release of the political detainees, the report said.
Meanwhile, some activists are pointing fingers against the President for reasons that his action will put his name once again on the headlines while the fact remains that there are still 200 political prisoners languishing in jail.
