Divide and rule policy reflect on Myanmar as Wa refused to go back home

Aung Kyaw Zaw, a famous analyst and close to the Wa disclosed that the United Wa State Army (UWSA) and the people they have taken with them from the Sino-Burmese border will not go back from the Thai-Burmese border area where they were given the permission to reside since year 1990, said news report from SHAN.

He added that the land was a result of blood, sweat and tears of the Wa people and its fighters. There's no way for them to abandon it for any reason.

The UWSA has staged an all out war against the Mong Tai Army (MTA) led by the late Khun Sa (1926-2007) for 7 years. A rebellion occurred which caused his forces to weaken and was forced to make peace with Rangoon in 1996.

After 3 years, with the permission of Gen Khin Nyunt, the UWSA forcibly relocated more than 80,000 (125,000 according to a Lahu report) from the north to Mongton and Monghsat townships, opposite Thailand's Chiangmai and Chiangrai provinces.

Burmese government demanded the Wa to go back to the Chinese border. But because Wa refuses to give into their demand it has created a wall in their relationship.

However, there was an instance when the government forces were unable to fight against Khun Sa so they had asked the help of the Wa to fight for them.

From then on the government had accepted Wa fighters that are injured and had fought for 20 years at its various hospitals in, Mingladon, Meikhtila and Taunggyi. They were also given supplies of weapons and ammo, the report said.
