U Win Tin refuses to return his jail-uniform

Police authorities has ordered Myanmar's longest-serving political prisoner who was released more than four years ago to return his jail uniform he wore on the day of his release, said news report from AFP.

Win Tin aged 83 and a veteran democracy activist had been imprisoned for almost 20 years because of his political engagements during the military junta. He was given an amnesty and was freed by the former military junta in September 2008 from Yangon's notorious Insein prison.

With regards his uniform he revealed that he no longer had the blue shirt and sarong-like longyi and declines to pay the cost of US$2. He further added that he did not steal the uniform. He did not believe that he would be released from prison that is why he did not remove his uniform.

He wondered why it took the authorities after almost five years to ask him to return the uniform. He further said that he can be put to prison for 10 more years for theft of public property. He disclosed he doesn't care if he dies in prison. Police authorities did not issue any statement.

Countries all over the world praised and recognized the remarkable political reforms undertaken by President Thein Sein including the release of hundreds of political prisoners and allowing Suu Kyi to actively join in the national election.

Win Tin revealed that he wants the international community to know that his country is not truly free in the real essence of the word. He added that being released for more than five years; he felt that he is still inside the prison cell, the report said.

Wearing his uniform for nearly five years is his way of sympathizing with his fellow prisoners who remains inside the prison. Original source: http://www.betweenonline.com/2013/04/11/u-win-tin-refuses-to-return-his-jail-uniform/
