Suu Kyi says 2008 Constitution is not fair for the 2015 election

National League for Democracy leader Aung San SuuKyi said that people who were tasked to write the constitution needs the respect of the people. The writing should also be transparent, Eleven Media report said.

This matter came out during her meeting last April 13 with some Myanmar families staying in Japan.

She added that the organization behind the making of the constitution must be respectable in the society and is highly regarded by the people.

The constitution will be highly accepted if it is done with transparency. If there are certain issues that are not widely acceptable and are disapproved by the people, they have every right to question it. Before the constitution is written they must first consult and seek the approval of the majority of the people. Desire and the attitude of the people must be taken into consideration.

According to SuuKyi, the present Constitution must be rewritten before the election of 2015 because it seems unfair for the election. She expressed disappointment about the 2015 election thinking that it would be a free election. Different questions were asked from SuuKyi during her stay in Japan.

The people of the country were not consulted when the government changed the word "Burma" to Myanmar. She stressed that Burma means Bama nationalities while Myanmar means all ethnics. The word Myanmar does not represent all ethnics, she said.

She said she cannot see the main reason why they change the name Burma to Myanmar. Some said that it was based according to astrological point of view. However she disapproved of it saying that the country's reputation is more important rather than its name. Therefore the name of the country should not have been changed, said news report from Eleven Media.

On issues regarding the Letpadaungtaung copper mine project, she said that people have different views and opinions. Those who opposed and are against the mining projects are those who do not want to accept the findings and suggestions of the Investigation Commission. She believed in democracy. She added that don't enter politics if you cannot answer the questions asked and cannot accept any protests from the people.

Her visit was the second time during 2013. Her official tour in Japan started last April 12 and would end on April 19. Original source: http://www.betweenonline.com/2013/04/15/suukyi-says-2008-constitution-is-not-fair-for-the-2015-election/
