I am certain every one of us has been feeling sad on what was happening in Meikhtila’s riot and violence. I would urge every and single person in the country to treat this incident as unforgettable significant event and the lesson to learn so that we can avoid any further incidents like this in the future and lives could be saved too.
It is sad that we do not have any specific reason for being badly unrest like this. I do not even think of what was the intention of being violent towards citizens who are the Muslims in that particular town. Some Buddhist religion people and monks felt sad and sympathetic on victims. Surprisingly, they have no idea or whatsoever of this mob and looting. We all can see the scene of terrifying killing and burning bodies in the riots on the You-tube.
According to the news, media, rumor and the information available to me, was only started from the story of fake gold and arguments towards and finally ended up with killing, looting to deaths toll. Obviously, this is something that we must learn from this significant incident experience.
Some people said that it was a planned mob and looting. Some people believe that it was something relevant to the politics and tricks. Some people guess and suspicious on internal conflict between civilian government and the military officials. Some comments of 969 might be linked to this riot.
Whatever it is, we all are born and brought up in the same country and we all live in the same community, helping each other with love and kindness and very closely living in harmony and forming as a unity in this nation. We all stood up in uprising of 8.8.88 for democratic country.
I do not think that it would work in this way for divide and rule the country from a group of people who intended to destroy the unity. We all must definitely learn the lesson from this incident. Some Buddhist monks are kindly providing food for the victims. Some Buddhist monks are attending the hospital and showing the sympathetic supports for the Muslim victims.
A group of people only concerned about the influence of Muslims in the country in 21st century which is not practically true if we are intelligently taking into consideration of the government system and balancing up the fact that the majority of top officers are all Buddhist religion in the country anyhow. There wasn’t any Burmese history of any religious leadership in government cabinet if a group of people is intelligently considering in calming manner. However it must be an “excuse” for bulling and threatening one sided on Muslims so that they could loot and rob the businesses.
The lesson to learn is that the rule of law doesn’t work no matter the President is giving sweet talk to the public. It took more than 48 hours the Army to arrive. The riot started on Wednesday and the national security only arrived on Saturday. People have been in the state of life threatening for 4 days. People lost their lives. People lost their properties that their life time hard work savings. A group of mob destroyed within hours and looted their belongings Left, Right, Centre. What was the answer for them? What would be their achievement?
The lesson to learn for the authorities is that despite several requests made to save citizens’ lives and properties and to clear the riot, the police washes their hands, by doing nothing and the army refused to give hand as the government is civilian government it was told by eyewitness. And yet they don’t do anything until and unless the order is received by chief officers.
If it is happening in sort of Western countries, the Police force will arrive to protect the citizens within minutes at least the public would be saved from harm. Sometimes the offices must have efficient power and the authorization automatically to calm the situation to protect the citizens, the properties and the environment.
In Burma whilst waiting the order step by step, the killing fields have become full of dead bodies. The properties have become ashes. This is something to learn and we must have speedy action and pro-active by all authorities to protect the citizens, properties, children and the environment if we are intending to reform the system fully and completely. Layback system and slow process of attempting to do urgent attention, do not encourage democracy goals to be achieved. Fast-track actions are needed to save lives. Pro-active must be done before it is too late. This could be treated as the lesson to learn too.
To be fair and square, the rule of law should have highlighted a strong and concrete law of death sentence for these murderers who had already taken innocent families’ lives. If the murderers are escaped without strong punishments even though they killed innocent people, then they will commit this crime again and again. They must learn. They must be punished by sending death sentence. The public must satisfy that the government stands on the rule of law and good governance.
The world knows about this incident. Nothing can be hidden. The government administration system is in question. The country lost confidence. The dignity of Burmese people in the world is degraded due to a group of these extremists. The unity could be at risk. Democracy is unable to implement peacefully due to lack of freedom of movement in religion practice. This is a lesson to learn.
I am extremely concerned that if the civilian government cannot cope with the situations, the citizens are at risk. The military is the second opinion and only option to manage the country’s administration to restore the peaceful land and to safeguard the people of Myanmar. We did have bad experience in the past and who wants to go back to past decades?
