Thein Sein urges NZ Universities to help upgrade Myanmar’s higher education

Myanmar President Thein Sein disclosed that he wants to work together with the universities in New Zealand including science and technology, Radio New Zealand news reported.

Speaking before a crowd of Auckland University representatives, he said that Myanmar is undergoing significant social and political transformations and among them is to focused on the quality of education.

He further added that New Zealand could greatly contribute in the development and progress of the country in terms of health, science, human resources and advance technologies. Improving the nation’s economic development as well as the exploration of minerals is one of his major aspirations, he said.

Auckland University Vice-Chancellor Stuart McCutcheon hopes that the President’s visit to New Zealand would open doors for greater opportunities of a partnership.

Governor General Lieutenant General Sir Jerry Mateparae officially welcomed Mr Sein last Thursday, the report said.

During the state dinner in Auckland, Sir Jerry disclosed that the flourishing relationship between the countries will be further strengthened by creating in Yangon its diplomatic presence. In addition, Sir Jerry said that increasing trade and the sharing of knowledge and understanding between the two nations will be encouraged.

In return, President Thein said that bilateral trade and investment will take its course of action as well.
