Four Manchester United veterans visited Yangon last Sunday to conduct charity works with the purpose drawing back the former former pariah state's return to the world stage, said news report from DPA.
According to Dennis Irwin, Myanmar football sport is known to lead in the South East Asia in year 1960s and 1970s but it did not flourished since there were many problems encountered in the country.
He further added that raising the fund for charity is not only their main purpose but also to extend their fullest support on Myanmar’s implementation of various transformations.
The world knew that the country has been under ruling military junta between 1962 and 2010 but since the new government under President Thein Sein came to power political and economic reforms has taken into effect which made the country an interesting place for investment.
Lee Sharpe, Clayton Blackmore, Andy Cole and Irwin who are former Manchester United players will be joining the national team of Myanmar and compete against the Myanmar National League All Star team in a friendly competition to be held in Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon on Sunday evening, the report said.
ZawZaw, chairman of Myanmar Football Federation and founder of Ayeyarwady Foundation that is hosting the friendly match disclosed that all proceeds from the donations will be distributed to various agencies such as local hospitals, HIV rehabilitation centers and Buddhist monastic education.
