About 49 employees of the San Kaung Polyethylene Factory in Hlinethaya Township, Yangon Region were terminated by the company last May 11. More than a thousand workers have been staging a protest rally for unfair dismissal of the workers, according to news report from Eleven Media.

Win Tun Aung, Chairman of the Worker’s League disclosed that the protesters insisted that the 49 workers who were removed from their job be reinstated, that no threat should be accorded to the workers, and the employers must be obliged to cooperate with the worker’s league.

On April 25, these 49 dismissed workers have demanded the employers to increase their salary by K5000 since they are working more as compared to the other departments of the company.

Workers numbering about 1800 are showing strong willpower and force to continue their protest until such time that their demands are met by the employers, the report said.
