China objects US, UK as observers in Kachin peace talk

Two countries such as the United States and United Kingdom will no longer participate as observers in the scheduled peace talk between the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) and the government of Myanmar because China disapproved of their involvement, said news report from Eleven Media.

According to San Aung of Peace Coordinating Group (PCG), even if US and UK representatives will not be able to join the peace talk, Chinese delegates and UN Secretary-General’s Special Adviser to Myanmar Vijay Nambiar will attend the peace talk.

The KIO said that strong pledges could be possibly attained if only US and the UK were allowed to join in the peace talk. San Aung added that they will also see the progress of the peace talk with China and UN in the said discussion.

San Aung further added that it was KIO that invited the US and UK to join in the peace talk but when China came to know about it, they readily objected to the plan. But in the event that this peace talk would fail, the KIO will accept the peace talks to be organized by these two countries.

Moreover, Dr Min ZawOo, Director of ceasefire of Myanmar Peace Center disclosed that both the KIO and the government have agreed to push thru with the peace talk in Myitkyina on the 28th day of May, the report said.

The various ethnic armed groups that were invited to attend are the KNU, RCSS, UWSP, KNPP, NDAA, PNLO, NMSP, SSPP and CNF. No details yet if they will join or not.
