SuuKyi presents in Japan could bring more economic opportunities for Myanmar

Japan's desire to extend a bigger responsibility and role in Myanmar will come to reality with the official tour of Nobel Peace Prize laureate and opposition leader Aung San SuuKyi in the country, AP news reported.

The visit of Aung San SuuKyi to Japan for the very first time in 27 years is very important. This will remarkably highlight the concern and interest of Japan to provide assistance to Myanmar in terms of its economy and development.

The investment made by Japan in Myanmar is not far-fetched from that of China and India. From the time the government of Japan cleared Myanmar's debt amounting to more than US$6 billion; it has opened chances for other international lending to serve Myanmar.

Well known business leaders of Japan including famous top executives from Toyota Motor Corp., Hitachi Ltd. and Sumitomo Chemical visited Myanmar last February and promised to help in encouraging more businessmen for great business opportunities in Myanmar.

SuuKyi is not only an icon for democracy and political freedom but she is also an Ambassador of Goodwill. She is highly respected in Japan. She is expected to meet with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and other top officials of the government. She will also deliver speeches at Japan's famous universities, the report said.

According to Jeff Kingston, a professor at Tokyo's Temple University, the main goal is to push and persuade the government of Japan to support Myanmar in all its undertakings.
