Another construction of Chinese-backed hydropower projects along the lower Salween will be permitted by the government of Myanmar after the government of China lifted its ban on the upper Salween River also known as the Nu in China, said news report from China Dialogue.

Last February the Deputy Minister for electric power disclosed to parliament that six dams would be built on the Salween in order to generate electricity and they are the following: Tasang dam, Ywathit, Nong Pa (Naungpha), Hat Gyi dam, Mantawng dam and Kunlong dam.

However, the government did not yet issued details on what companies will be responsible for the projects. But it is very clear that dam-building giants such as China Southern Power Grid, China Three Gorges Project Corp. and Sinohydro are the companies involved.
