Lt-Gen YawdSerk from Restoration Council of Shan State/Shan State Army (RCSS/SSA) disclosed that the Burmese Army was firing 105 mm and 120 mm heavy artilleries targeting at Loi Naga mountain ranges, where Shan State Army Homong bases are located in southern Shan State since March 15, SHAN news reported.
With these move by the military the SSA forces did not hit back saying that the SSA bases were not crushed. They also said that they are committed to respect the mutual agreement on peace that were signed between the two forces.
Local citizens revealed that the sound of machine guns' firings could be heard from Na Mon village in the Thai side.
Attempts by the Burmese Army to take over the SSA's bases located in the Loi Naga mountain ranges last January was a failure. In that incident, 3 attempts were made in a just a day resulting in the death of a Burmese soldier.
Again in the month of February, the Burmese Army has demanded two RCSS/SSA bases to withdraw from Homong areas. Nevertheless, none of the RCSS/SSA bases has been withdrawn so far, the report said.
Last February, RCSS/SSA leader Lt-Gen YawdSerk and U Aung Min, spearheading the Government Peace Creating committee met in Chiang Mai. It was in this occasion that U Aung Min promised not to allow hostilities and conflicts to happen again and to give due respect on the ceasefire agreement.
