The recent clash between the Buddhists and Muslims that occurred in
central Myanmar town has left 20 people dead and residents are scared to
walk the streets. It has been two days since the riot has started, AP
news reported.
Win Htein, a local lawmaker from the opposition National League for
Democracy disclosed that at present there is no single sign of unrest in
that area until Friday morning.
However, the town of Meikhtila remained tense and unsafe. Houses of
Muslims were set to fire and irate Buddhist residents and monks tried to
stop the police authorities from putting out the fire.
The unrest began last Wednesday and among the properties that were burned down include five mosques, the report said.
